About Vaubren

Vaubren is a European defence technology company developing aircraft, command software, sensing and electronic warfare as one integrated system, with a person in command of every use of force. Our engineering team is based in Bulgaria, inside the European Union and NATO.

The role

You will build the security and export control foundations a defence company needs: protecting sensitive information, preparing our facilities and people for security clearances, and making sure every transfer of technology follows the law. The hard problem is doing it from the ground up, in a way that satisfies national authorities and still lets a fast engineering team work. You will be the company’s trusted authority on both.

Why this role

  • You build the function from first principles, with direct access to leadership
  • Your work is what lets Vaubren handle sensitive work and deliver to allies lawfully
  • You shape a security culture that protects people without slowing the engineering down

What you will do

  • Set up physical, personnel and information security for our offices, workshop and the planned Starfort campus
  • Lead Vaubren through facility and personnel security clearance processes with the national authorities
  • Own export control classification and licensing under EU dual-use and military list rules
  • Build a technology control plan that sets who can access what, including visitors and partners
  • Train the team on handling sensitive information and export rules, and make it part of daily work
  • Work with legal advisers, customers and authorities on security requirements and audits

What you bring

  • Typically 6+ years in defence industrial security, export control or trade compliance
  • Knowledge of EU export control regulation, the Common Military List and national licensing
  • Experience preparing a facility for security accreditation or running cleared personnel processes
  • Sound judgement and discretion with sensitive information
  • Eligibility for a national security clearance at the level the role requires

If you meet most of these points but not all, we still encourage you to apply.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NATO security procedures
  • Knowledge of the Bulgarian security and export authorities
  • Information security certification such as ISO 27001
  • Experience building the function yourself in a growing company

Working at Vaubren

  • A full-time role in Bulgaria, inside the European Union and NATO
  • Work across the whole system, from design review to field test
  • Small teams with real ownership of their work
  • Relocation discussed with each candidate
  • Responsibilities, compensation and start date agreed in writing

Security and eligibility

Some roles involve work that is subject to security vetting and export control. Where a role requires it, we explain the process early, and an offer may depend on eligibility for national security clearance. You do not need a clearance to apply.

Vaubren is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from everyone with the skills for the role, whatever their background. If you need an adjustment during the hiring process, tell us and we will make it.
